Your Course Instructor, Facilitator, Instigator, Moderator, Interlocutor, and Self-proclaimed "Renaissance Man"

James Maxfield has a BA and MA in English from Cleveland State U and is in the process of completing a second MA in Urban Planning & Design with an emphasis in economic development. He also has completed numerous courses in Business, Philosophy, and Paralegal work as well as a series of 5 graduate level professional courses in commercial real estate toward the CCIM professional designation.

His work experience is mostly in three major areas: Food Service operations (where he has worked in all positions from dishwasher to cook to manager), Manufacturing (from machinist and tool & die maker to assistant plant manager), and Commercial Real Estate & Business Brokerage and Appraisal. Jim has also done some limited business consulting and free-lance technical writing and paralegal work. Besides teaching and writing, Jim manages his own commercial real estate brokerage firm that specializes in the tax-deferred exchanging and creative marketing of corporate and private investment properties.

He is currently a part-time instructor at Tri-C for English Grammar and Composition (and hopefully in the future) some literature, creative writing, and poetry courses. He is currently completing several books for publication: A History and Anthology of Folk-Rock Lyricism, Poetry in Mind (a book on the philosophy of poetry), and a corporate "how to" manual for industrial site selection. He has also had several real estate and appraisal articles published and sometimes teaches continuing education and licensing courses for real estate or appraisal. He is delighted to have this opportunity to teach at Tri-C because "only by teaching do we really learn."

Besides reading and writing for pleasure, he enjoys cooking up new recipes, ballroom dancing, playing chess, and spending time at the beach.
