Exercise #8

Writing Reviews

Write a short (one-page, double-spaced) review of a film, play, dance recital, musical performance, art exhibition, or other cultural event (approved by instructor). You must actually have attended the event or seen the film within 30 days prior to completing this exercise. (A PBS televised concert is also acceptable.) (As a suggestion, many of the short stories we will be reading have been made into feature films which may be available from your local library or through the Tri-C Library and Ohio Link. Reviewing such a film would provide you with additional insight that will help in writing your final short story tem paper.)

It will be necessary for you to read and study how reviews are written for magazines or entertainment newspaper sections. You can also find some internet web sites with tips on "How to write a _________ Review." Insert the type of review you wish to write in the blank space when you do your search. (Please NOTE: Do not attempt to "Cut & Paste" a review from the internet! This is Plagiarism and is easily detected. Doing so will result in failing the assignment and perhaps the course.) Look under Supplemental Handouts for Writing Movie Review tips. (If you cannot find it, ask your instructor.)
