Welcome to the Teacher's Resource Center Web Site at Cuyahoga Community College at the western campus. This website was made possible through generous funding from the Martha Holden Jennings Foundation and Cuyahoga Community College. The creation of this site came from our original intent to continue to serve the community as a resource and to be pro-active in demonstrating our commitment to education by extending our learning community beyond those who have enrolled and currently attend the college. Five years ago we created the first workshop in the series for junior high and high school teachers entitled, "Celebrating the 150th Anniversary of the Women's Rights' Movement." We wanted to create a learning community by extending the expertise of our dedicated faculty to the teachers whose students will come through our classroom doors. The workshop was well attended and drew teachers not only from the immediate area but also from as far away as Shaker Heights and Solon. Teachers left the workshop equipped with lesson plans, articles, bibliographies, visuals, as well as lists of relevant Web sites, films and CD-ROMs that could be used in their classrooms to facilitate learning and the understanding of the women's rights movement. The success of the workshop motivated our next event, a workshop entitled, "The Use of Film in the History Classroom". The successful response to and evaluation of the workshops led to the creation of additional annual teacher workshops, a Teachers' Resource Center housed at the western campus of the college and this Web site. Through this site, the materials generated by the NEOEA workshops are being disseminated to a wider audience. Teachers now have access to lesson plans from the workshop topics, faculty contacts and resources (bibliographic, textual, videos, and CD-ROMs) available at the college in the Teacher's Resource Center. Internet access to these additional resources extends our learning community to teachers in all districts. We hope the discussion section of this website will serve as a forum through which area teachers can communicate their ideas and lesson plans to other teachers. It is our desire that, in this way, a successful expanding learning environment can be fostered.
